QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
QWAK,As a kid I injoyed shooting a bow and arrow and got fairly good at it so of cores incorperated habing a good bow and lots of arrows and the stuff to refletch and replace knocks and points.
My Dad stoped shooting his 45 lb. bow at about my present age and I now know why :wink:MY elbo is geting arthritis too and IT hurts to pull and hold that bow! I decided to SPLURGE and get a realy COOL high power CROSS BOW --- this is what I got. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=360360 The thing is AWSOME:hahaha: LOL When it arived I set it up and tried to cock the string :hahaha::s10::censored: luckely I had concidered THAT posability and did my research:thinkey::yes: The quad 400 can for $150.00 have a built in crank cocking device! :s9: Ordered the device about 10 days laterI installed the crank device this morning.:yippee: Thake the thing out side to try a fiew shots in to my special foam cross bow target (another $50.00) Put the cross hairs on dead center and I heard the bolt tare off in to the trees well above the special target!:banghead: Special CARBON BOLT #1 GONE most likely never to be found!:censored: OK obviously I must have pulled the shot a bow with a triger is real new to me. I hooked up the cranking device to the string and cranked it back agen, put in a new bolt and from about 10 foot just pointed in to the target and fired. Got it almost dead center but the carbon fiber bolt was broken just below the fletches!!!!:favorites21::s10::censored: At $4.00 a bolt this new cross bow is going to be too expencive to shoot IF this keeps hapening!:s1: Perhaps I should have just bought the 120 LB. cheep one as the bolts it shoots are a lot cheeper TOO! http://www.sportsmansguide.com/zoom/...om&adid=429515 Just wondering IF others use high power cross bows and have any advice?:questionm:questionm Got to say the thing looks incredably AWSOME and I dbout even a bullet proof vest could stop it with a broad head on the tip of a bolt! Perhaps the new heavy ceramic ones would but I dbout kevlar or the old flack jackets we wore in Viet Nam could! the DUCK |

Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
Not legal for hunting here. Saw LOTS of them in the new Cabels's. Makes me wonder what's up. AND they were 'spensive!
Is this a case where the southern boys are having all the fun again? WA regs.....I joke you need a lawyer to read them. They're so bad I quit fishing. Oh, it's OK to pay to use your rod, just don't catch anything. |
Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
As a historical weapons buff, I love them.

I had a flash somthing like what happened in the star wars movie ware with PRIMITIVE WEAPONS a modern army with all its weapon toys could be defeated and CROSS BOWS could be such a weapon -- just one SHOT but geting hit by that shot would be DEVISTATING! The ancient Chinease had one that could shoot a bolt the size of a broom stick more than a MILE and with an iron head could take out a horse and rider! They even had smaller ones that could rapid cock and fire from a magasean every 3 seconds and they had hundreds of soldiers armed with them! Talk about a HARD RAIN gona fall -- a real BAD DAY for any one under that rain! the DUCK |

I love to shoot her, something primeval about that. Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
QWAK,Mantokir,The history channel on cable has a whole series on ancient Chinese weapons and macheans. They were drilling deep OIL and GAS wells over 2000 years ago with oil derics that looked much like the ones used back in the old wild cat days here in the USA, only theres were built out of BAMBOO and the rope and cable use to operating them was also made out of BAMBOO in sted of steel cable!
In many ways we are today just REDISCOVERING much of what was KNOWN but LOST ---- the cost of WAR is a lot more than SILVER and GOLD --- even MORE than the BLOOD and GORE -- it is the LOSS off acumulated KNOLAGE of countless ones who came before and spent there lives trying to make life better!:thinkey::yes: The ELEAT always hord the KNOLAGE because it gives THEM POWER over the ones who have little KNOLAGE! After the WARS the survivors LOSE the KNOLAGE and have to start over! There is a LESON in there SOME WARE -- perhaps more than ONE?:questionm:wink: the DUCK |

There have been eons of civilizations that have risen to prominence, to an empire, only to have crumbled to dust with the excess and hubris. It is always followed by the dark times, where knowledge is no longer marveled, but actively devil-ized. Cycles. The knowledge is out there, it requires rapt, devout attention. It requires your soul, your fiber, your bone, your muscle, and all your nerve. The ELEAT have always been there. Perhaps not as great a threat secondary to todays speed of communication, and travel. It is a significant problem for us today. It is a long story for our world, our time and use of GIM, with all the accumilated mind, and energy therein, one can piece together the story. What to do? Community is one is gregarious enough, it is the most secure, as long as the folks therein are all on the same page. This is the difficult part for some. Obviously, beans, bullets and bandaids. Lots of sharp arrows. And energy and hope. |

He took a tire iron and heated it up cherry red with a torch and straitened out the bend then sharpened the end on a grinder. Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
humm, the youngest boy made a cross bow and bolts the other day and him and his cousin wound up shooting him in the hand, well the bolt was made of bamboo and now he has a nasty infection...live and learn, refine the skills on how best to avoid injury

Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
QWAK,Igotyour6,When I was in Nam I worked with a team of mountanyard (sp?) on the perimiter and got to be good friends with them and befor I left that AO they made me a cross bow with small bamboo arrows and two short swards made from car leaf springs.
The cross bow was small but no TOY they told me the big ones will put a bolt threw both sides of a 50 gallon drum! Bamboo is an incredable building material and does a lot of things it is realy quite amasing stuff! Still got my HO CHE MIN sandles made out of an old JEEP tire --- things last for ever -- just replace a strap now and then made from an old inner tube!:s9: the DUCK |
Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
Roger that Duck! dip that bamboo in some blood and manure mixed up and that infection is unFRICKINstopable, that bamboo soaks up the mix and...well they run off and lick their wound for days

Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
not that I know anyone that would do that
and if they would...they would be an animal |
Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
We have a couple, they are my husband's, I can't use them, not strong enough, but I have a compound bow that I am strong enough to draw on and shoot.
I know the pounds aren't up there, 30-35 lbs. I think I recall him saying, hell I might be wrong, I just know he got me one that he thought I could handle, and I can. His cross bows are set up for him, he's really into them (oh and his guns). Nice old fashioned weapon. |
Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
Picked up a 25 year old Browning wheelbow for $5 at an auction a few weeks ago. Nice smooth bow. I am prepareing it and few old arrows and broadheads for "underground storage". You never know. Effective and it's a lot Cheaper than those fancy crossbows, eh Duck?

Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
I remember reading, in an old Mother Earth News, an article about making a hedge bow. From the point of selecting the sapling to cutting it and curing it for a year, and so on. I always wanted to make one but never got around to it at the right time of year. but it would still be a cool project and some good knowledge to have on tap.

QWAK,"PLUCK YOU ALL" :s9::hahaha::haha:
Actualy drawing a BOW wile holding an arrow is known as "PLUCKING the YEW" and is ware the MIDDLE FINGER SALUTE" came from!:yes: The gesture was/is ment as DEFIANCE and INSULT and a statment that ONE is a FREEMAN ready to FIGHT back agenst ones who would do them HARM and make them virtualy or in reality SLAVES!:thinkey::yes: http://www.jerrypournelle.com/reports/jerryp/yew.html So HOLD up that middle FINGER PROUDLY:wink: and once TSHTF "PLUCK them GOOD!":s1::hahaha::haha::haha: Personaly I don't like KILLING so IF/WHEN it comes down to IT THIS is MY plan: I will put on my GILLY SUIT and ----- SHOOT them in the ASS :hahaha::haha::yes: the DUCK |
Re: QWAK,any body in to CROSS BOWS?
Duck, it was actually the two fingered "gesture" used by the English towards the French at Agincourt - those being the two fingers they used to draw the bow. It was the equivalent of "F**k you", as they were showing they still had their fingers, and would still fight... I think that may be where the hippy "V" sign came from, as it's in reverse...
